Action Factory were approached to work with children and young people in Burnley to create an awareness and understanding of the developments in the town. Burnley is currently undergoing a period of immense change, from new and improved housing and exciting developments in the town centre, to new leisure facilities and secondary schools.

In order to increase the awareness of these projects and create a sense of 'good feeling', Burnley Council and Better Burnley (a campaign suppported by the LSP) were keen to engage with local residents and other key stakeholders in projects that raise awareness and aspirations in relation to their town.

20/20 Vision enagaged pupils at Key Stage 2 in thinking about where they live and how they see the 'exciting Burnley of the future', by the year 2020 or '2020 Vision.'

Action Factory used visual arts to look at the following areas:

  • Housing
  • Schools
  • Health and Leisure
  • Shops
  • Heritage

Through using art as a vehicle to express their thoughts and ideas, the pupils involved produced a series of images/models on each of the above topics. This work is being fed in to consulation and action plan proposals and has been photographed for an exhibition.
