Lark in the Park 2006

VIEW PROJECT GALLERY

Working in partnership with Friends of Mercer Park, staff from Clayton Youth and Community Centre, a growing number of local parents and volunteers from Action Factory. We started, as in previous years with a four week Holiday Arts and Sports Programme. This programme was due to lead up to the one day festival of arts and culture in Mercer Park.

The arts workshops provided a host of creative opportunities and were attended by over 60 young people and parents every day. Workshops included a creative 'make and take away', processional costumes and structures, festival site decorations, further work on the Sensory Garden and music workshops.

The weather throughout was kind and everyone was looking forward to Lark in the Park, with an extended programme of theatre, live music, an arts and crafts marquee, climbing wall, circus skills, miniature fairground, a temporary feast your senses sensory garden, the established Bark in the Park (a dog show), the all comers Bowls Competition and assorted refreshments. Unfortunately, for the first time in six years the weather was diabolical - torrential rain and high winds - as one of the Friends of Mercer Park said "The cake (the holiday arts programme) was fantastic, what we didn't have was an opportunity to taste the icing."

Thanks to funding and in kind support from Clayton and Altham Area Council, The Local Network Fund, Harvest Housing Group, The Harris Charity, Hyndburn Borough Council, Lancashire County Council and Arts Council North West Lottery Fund. Friends of Mercer Park are already working towards 2007.
