The Four Seasons mosaic, cast metal and ceramic relief work was created by young people attending a four week holiday arts programme in Mercer Park, Calyton-le-Moors near Accrington. The holiday arts programme includes both visual and performing arts and leads up to the annual festival - Lark in the Park. The Four Seasons piece represents the first of many art works which will eventually form a sensory garden.
The festival and the Sensory Garden are two projects we are developing in partnership with Friends of Mercer Park who are committed to making this local recreational facility more widely used and fit for purpose in the 21st century. Friends of Mercer Park are hoping to get support from the National Lottery to finance an extenstive programme of participatory work with many local community groups and schools to make the 'grand design' of the Sensory Garden a reality by the time Lark in the Park takes place in September 2008.
