Roe Lee Park Primary Healthy Eating Banner

VIEW PROJECT GALLERY

Children from all classes in the school were invloved in a week long varied activity programme to encourage healthy living. Textile artist Clarey Ettrick worked with all pupils in Year 5 and 6 to create a textile banner on the theme of healthy eating. Ninety children participated in deciding what images and words would be used. In groups, they block printed messages on to fabrics and learned silk painting. Individually, images of fruit and vegetables were produced by block printing on to fabrics. More images were produced by bonding fabrics, using fabric crayons, fabric paints, collage and hand stiching.

One very large and two smaller banners were produced, bringing together all the individual elements of the children's work. The banners are displayed in the school dining hall, improving the environment with lots of colour. The Head Teacher hopes the banners will encourage all pupils to be aware of and make healthy food choices.
