Creative writing workshops involving young people and elders in the Werneth area of Oldham informed the visual content of two signage pieces, a series of cast metal relief pictures and four circular mosaic, ceramic and cast metal stepping stones. The work provides additional interest and a linkage to the past in this neighbourhood pocket park and is an expression of local involvement in an area of Oldham which is experiencing significant change through Housing Market Renewal.
The project was funded through SRB and undertaken in partnership with the DAWN (Derker and Werneth Network) Arts, an ongoing collaboration involving Community Links, Groundwork, English Heritage, Action Factory and many more community based organisations. The group seeks to provide a participatory programme of projects - all of which are aimed at maintaining communication and community spirit, providing learning opportunities and giving local people a voice in regeneration.
