Who Runs this Place?

Action Factory used drama and visual arts workshops to raise awareness among young people and adults of the wider democratic process, citizenship and the importance of voting.

Working with groups from Nightsafe, THOMAS and Blackburn With Darwen Foyer, Action Factory worked with the participants to investigate citizenship and how voting can affect their lives. The project, funded by Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council and the Electoral Commission resulted in an evening of performance and viewing of a graffiti wall, inspired by the artist Banksy made by young people from Nightsafe.

Council Leader, Kate Hollern said: "We hope this project will make the democratic process appear more relevant to the needs and interests of everyone in the borough and enable those taking part to share their experiences and enthusiasm with their peers. It will also build closer partnership between hard to reach groups, the wider community and the Council."
