Weaste Mural Project

Action Factory and Groundwork Manchester, Salford and Trafford worked with various groups in the Weaste area of Salford to design a 60m long mural for the Salford Reds Rugby Club Car park. These groups included an after schools club, holiday club, schools (primary and secondary), local young people and we also held public drop in sessions.

The mural is mainly painted but incorporates some glass mosaic pieces.

The aim of the project was to consult young people to develop their ideas for what the design should incorporate and for them to be involved directly in designing the mural alongside the artist - through this process the young people achieved a sense of ownership of the mural and pride of the area.

We also wanted the people involved in the project to learn new skills, have an opportunity to use their imaginations, be creative and for them to be proud of their achievements, and to talk of a \'next time\'.

Local residents are very happy with the outcome and feel the mural is a quality piece of work that enhances the area.
