‘Arts as a catalyst for caring and sharing'
Action Factory took part in World Community Arts Day on February 17th 2009. We opened up our building and put on free art workshops for the local community. The day was an amazing success with around 100 people taking part in arts workshops including felt making, badge making, portrait workshop, monster making, creating bee sculptures and a drumming workshop.
Action Factory decided to take part in World Community Arts Day, now in its third year as we feel it is important to celebrate the impact that community arts can have on people's lives. The event attracted people from all over Blackburn and surrounding areas. Mohammed Khan, the Mayor of Blackburn also attended the event and took part in the activities.
Action Factory artists and volunteers gave their time to the day and we would have not been able to celebrate this important event without their help and commitment.
One parent said, "I really enjoyed the day, as did my daughter as it kept her engaged for 2 hours and she is only 4!! All the artists and volunteers were fantastic - great interaction and high quality art work. Brilliant, so lucky to have this for our children during half term and for free! Thank you Action Factory."
The Lancashire Evening Telegraph, came along to the day and took a video for their website, please click on the link to watch the video http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/videos/
