"ART AS A CATALYST FOR CARING AND SHARING"

Action Factory threw open its doors for the second time to celebrate World Community Arts Day.

People were invited from all strides of life ... clients, partners, participants, artists, volunteers and friends old and new.

The fun started at 11am when the building was already buzzing with the sound of people enjoying the event.

Julian was involved in making fantastic hats for fantistic people and Charlotte was sharing the secrets of indoor kite making with people at the other end of the table. Rebecca was kept very busy all day making bead jewellery and some volunteers made some beautiful badges.

Cath's big draw wall of paper grew as the day went on, starting out as a monochrome masterpiece and ending in a riot of colour and creativity.

Music and drama games kept people stimulated when Kerry and Cheryl took their turns in the performance space.

Raymond Pickles, our resident artist, was only mildly disturbed, by the drum crescendo, from telling people about his pictures.

Families with younger children spent time in the canteen and a couple of babies even managed to have a sleep on an impromptu cot made from turning the sofa around.

All in all we finished the day satisfied that we had celebrated what community art is all about. People leaving their problems and worries behind and breaking down boundaries to get together with others and to create something.

Action Factory uses community arts in its work with community groups, schools, children's centres, health providers, and much more to create bonds, give confidence and and challenge prejudice.
